Biotechnology

Due to its characteristics and dynamism, biotechnology is set to fill in the 21st century the same place occupied by physics and chemistry in the 20th century in terms of discoveries, applications and contributions related to the development of new products and markets.

While developed countries remain pioneers in the field, there is a great investment opportunity in the emerging countries, as shown by the trends in the increasing use of biotech crops and the emergence of a middle class with more sophisticated consumption habits.

Currently, about 30% of global business is affected by biology and its associated technologies through aspects such as:

• Health care

• Food production

• Generation of renewable energy

• Agriculture and forestry development

In this context, Foresight 2020 constantly monitors activities, trends, main investment projects and changes in the structure of risk within the biotechnology sector.
